A friend wrote to me asking about Duolingo’s fall. Here was my response:
[8:25 PM, 6/25/2025] Tim: down 25% from $530 (all-time highs). started buying a few shares at $440, have kept slowly buying since. Will slowly accelerate buying if it keeps dropping. Nothing really changed for the company. But Duolingo is a multiple company which means it's a story company which means it's gonna be volatile as all heck as people love it, hate it, etc. Right now, short-term technical traders are selling it seems to me. All good though. Mabel has been loving playing Duolingo Chess the past couple days. Can't get enough. She still is at a 5-year-old level but she knows the pieces names now; and kind of knows how they move; and loves playing. Duolingo so smart that it realized it wasn't playing me anymore and it started lowering it's level to the point where Mabel beats it half the time…. And she loves the animation.
